Computers in Horticultural Management

Winter Quarter, 2005

Project Description - 2002 - 2003 - 2004 - New for 2005

  • CONGRATULATIONS !!! You have just been selected to be a member of the team responsible for designing an educational component that supports the OSU Introduction to Horticulture Distance Education Program. Working with existing text and graphic files developed for the current MG program, the OSU PlantFacts and Plant Dictionary, other academic/gardening resources available on the web, and your own creativity; your assignment is to work collaboratively and develop an innovative and comprehensive web-based solution that will be useful in training and mentoring would-be horticulturists.

    You have at your disposal, FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Office, Word Perfect, and Dreamweaver to implement your solution. All work needs to be done in approximately six weeks.

Projet Procedures

  • A group discussion on January 19 will be organized to discuss:
    • possible topics and related learning goals
    • identifying available resources and developing new ones
    • designing a web interface that helps someone learn
    • creating the web site

    Following this meeting, each of you will need to decide on your proposed project. Specific learning goals, training resources, and evaluation items need to be decided and put into writing for approval by the instructor. Any deviation from these responsibilities must be approved in writing by both the instructor and the student.

Project Schedule

  • Jan. 19 - Discuss project requirements and procedures.
  • Jan. 26 - Term project proposal due - 10 points
  • Feb. 7- Present Project progress - 20 points
  • February 21 - Present Project progress - 30 points
  • March 9- Final Project due. All work is to be completed. Print all pages of the website and write a one paragraph abstract describing the website. - 100 points (70 points for website printout + 30 points for abstract) Email abstract to Rhodus.1@osu.edu
  • March 16 - Project Presentation. During the final exam period, each person will provide a professional presentation describing and demonstrating their project.- 40 points

Project Evaluation

  • The term project will contribute 200 points toward your final grade. Each stage of the project will be graded as follows:
  • Meets or exceeds all agreed upon deliverables - maximum points awarded
  • Does not yet satisfy all agreed upon deliverables. Refinements or corrections need to be turned within 24 hours. Maximum points can still be received. Penalty points will be deducted from the maximum allowed for missing required deadlines - 2 points per day.
