Desire to learn more about computer technologies and how they can assist professional horticulturists.
Textbook
None required. A variety of online references will be developed throughout the quarter and made available. For those desiring more information, I will gladly advise you on what may be helpful. The course website is: hcs.osu.edu/hcs560
Course Objectives
This course is intended to be an introduction to the variety of computer technologies that show potential for horticulture. Issues related to hardware and software evaluation, purchasing, and implementation will be presented.
Specific objectives include:
- Familiarize students with the variety of computer technologies available to a horticultural manager and their possible applications.
- Develop skills in using the Internet to access and disseminate information.
- Provide the opportunity for students to work collaboratively on expanding the web resources of our department's website.
- Prepare students to evaluate, utilize, and develop computer applications which will benefit them in their career.
Evaluation
Course grade will be determined by the following: Lab Projects: 6 at 50 points = 300 points, Term Project: 200 points, Midterm: 100 points, Final: 100 points, and Participation: 100 points. Total: 800 points
93 - 100% = A
87 - 89% = B+
77 - 79% = C+
67 - 69% = D+
90 - 92% = A-
83 - 86% = B
73 - 76% = C
63 - 66% = D
80 - 82% = B-
70 - 72% = C-
For ALL assignments, students are expected to revise and resubmit their work until it meets the stated requirements. Assignments not turned in by the due date will loose 2 points per day - NO EXCEPTIONS.

Academic Misconduct
You will be trusted to act in good faith by performing your own work on all assignments. Academic misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated.
