Using WS_FTP to Transfer Files![]()
OBJECTIVE: Use WS_FTP software to transfer files to and from the class account on - http://pcplants.com
The same procedures apply for transferring files to your own account for the term project.
You can download the software for free at:INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1.
From a public lab, Enable your Network Access. Start WS_FTP by clicking on WS_FTP95.exe in the WS_FTP folder. This is located in Program Files folder
From home, connect to the Internet and start the program.
A default Session Profile will come up. Click on New to change the settings.
STEP 2.
For Lab 4, follow the instructions listed under Lab 4.
For your Term Project, follow the instructions listed under Term Project.
Instructions Lab 4 Term Project 1. Next to Profile Name, enter: class server my server 2. Next to Host Name, enter: pcplants.com free.hostdepartment.com 3. Next to User ID enter: hcs560@pcplants.com your username 4. Next to Password enter: Announced in class your password 5. Click on OK. ![]()
STEP 3.
Once connected, you will see individual folders on the Remote System (right side of the window) and files on your computer (left side of the window).
Insert a floppy disk in drive A and double click on the A drive or double click on Drive C. Double click on the appropriate icon in the left side window to view the contents of your floppy drive or hard disk.
Double click on your personal folder on the remote system (right side of wirndow).
Highlight your database file for Lab 4 and then click on the arrow in the middle of the two windows. This will cause the file to transfer from one computer to the next. Your database project should be transferred in Binary format. Web pages should be transferred as ASCII and graphic files should be transferred as Binary. After tranfer is complete, click on Close.
Entire folders can be transferred using Auto format.
