What is the relationship between meiosis and sexual reproduction?
![]()
In sexual reproduction two haploid cells (gametes) fuse to make a diploid cell (zygote). Haploid cells are derived from diploid cells by meiosis.
![]()
What do we mean by "alternation of generations" and what kind of organisms do this?
![]()
- The occurrence of mitosis both in a zygote and after mitosis so that the organism can exist as a haploid (gametophyte) generation and diploid (sporophyte) generation.
- All true plants and some protists do this.
