Goff
became author of Principles of Plant Culture and
Lessons in Pomology (1897). He wrote the first
classifications of vegetables published in America. He
became horticulturist at the New York State
Agricultural Experiment Station at Geneva in 1882, and
became professor of horticulture at the University of
Wisconsin in 1889.
Goff produced new and hardy varieties of plums for
the Northern Great Plains area. He was a pioneer in
spraying for control of insects and diseases. He
performed the first successful experiments with
fungicides for the control of the apple scab fungus.
He also published many bulletins and papers in
horticultural publications and was a good systematic
botanist as well as horticulturist.
