Description:
The popular Amaryllis has a very large bulb that is often forced indoors in Winter or early Spring, and produces huge flowers in many hybrid colors. Its American scientific name of Hippeastrum (usually hybrids involving H. puniceum) is alternatively and correctly listed on a global scale as Amaryllis (usually hybrids involving A. belladonna).
