Scientific Name:
Panicum virgatum 'Rotstrahlbusch'

Family:
Rotstrahlbusch Switchgrass

Family:
Poaceae (also known as Gramineae)

Description:
Switchgrass is one of the best grasses for ornamental appeal in Winter, as its buff-colored fruiting heads and foliage blades remain entirely intact, and therefore do not create a litter problem across the nearby landscape. Fruiting heads can be harvested for dried arrangements anytime from Autumn through early Spring, as they do not shatter. The cultivar 'Rotstrahlbusch' has a reddish-purple tint to its mid- and late Summer foliage.
