Ohio State University Plant Dictionary

Scientific Name:
Sempervivum x rupicolum

Family:
Hens-and-Chicks

Family:
Crassulaceae

Description:
The genus Sempervivum usually reproduces asexually by means of tethered daughter plants (the "chicks") that eventually root and contribute to the growing colony of plants hovering around the mother plant (the "hen"). With this hybrid, the added ornamental feature of the asymmetrical length of the mother plant's leaves contribute to its ornamental appeal.
