Ohio State University Plant Dictionary

Scientific Name:
Chamaecyparis obtusa

Family:
Hinoki False Cypress

Family:
Cupressaceae

Description:
Certain species belong in the "specimen" category, as their features demand attention in the landscape, often as a focal point and conversation piece. These plants, which are usually woody and slow-growing, should never be sheared and only judiciously pruned, as their natural branching is a major portion of their appeal. The upright evergreen shrub known as Hinoki False Cypress fits well into this category.
