LAWN CARE SERVICES Comparison shop when selecting a lawn care service. Service programs will vary in cost and in variety of services. Find out each company's annual cost for their standard program and know the services provide with that program. Determine the types and cost of optional services. Request this information from two or more companies before choosing. Specific questions to ask include the following: ! What services come with the standard program? ! How much fertilizer is applied during the year and when? ! What types of nitrogen fertilizers are used? ! Are late-season fertilizer applications offered? ! What are their guarantees? ! Do they provide educational material on cultural practices? ! Can a gardener choose to have only fertilizer applications, but not treatments for weeds or insects? Avoid services where prices are very high or very low for similar care programs. Avoid companies that will not provide a contract. Lawn care professionals should be members of professional organizations: Professional Lawn Care Association of America, The Ohio Turfgrass Foundation, The Ohio Landscapers Association, The Professional Ground Management Society or local professional organizations.
