PURPOSE SUMMARY
To provide
a working forum for Ohios Plant Agriculture Industry
to enhance life through Science
COMPLETE PURPOSE
STATEMENT ( June 6, 2000)
The Plant Science Advisory Council is an advisory body
for the plant science programs in the College of Food, Agricultural,
and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University. Members
of the Council, representing Ohios commodity and other
organizations associated with plant industries and interests,
support the Colleges plant science programs in teaching,
research and extension located in academic units. The Councils
efforts include recommending new directions and opportunities.
Council meetings provide members with a forum for bilateral
communications with plant science faculty and administrators.
Issues of material interest to council member constituents,
are introduced, advanced and discussed. Two regular meetings
are held per year and other meetings are scheduled as needed.
ORGANIZATIONAL
STRUCTURE
NAME: The
name of the organization shall be The Ohio Plant Science Advisory
Council. Everywhere the name appears, the following mission
line will be printed underneath: Enhancing Life through Science
Using plants. The purpose of the Council is to provide a working
forum for Ohios Plant Agriculture Industry to enhance
life through science.
OFFICERS:
The elected officers of the organization shall be President,
President-Elect, Vice-President. An appointed Secretary/Treasurer
will be made from the personnel of the Department of Horticulture
and Crop Science. The officers will be elected by the general
membership. The officers length of term shall be two
years.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES: A Executive Committee, comprised
of ten members including the elected officers, plus the department
chair and 2 faculty members. Elected officers should represent
the broad spectrum of plant interests of the membership of
either the horticulture or the agronomic crop industry.
The Chair of the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science
will act as the Educational Advisor to the Executive Committee
and the organization as a whole but shall have no voting privileges.
Additionally, two faculty member of an academic unit working
in the plant sciences will be nominated to the Executive Committee
but shall have no voting privileges.
Additional members of the Executive Committee shall be nominated
by the Nominating Committee and voted upon by the general
membership.
COMMITTEES: A Nominating Committee which shall nominate
a slate of officers every two years.
Sub-Committees will be appointed as needed and necessary by
the Executive Committee.
MEMBERSHIP: Membership shall consist of the Chairs
or their designated representatives from all academic units
working in the plant sciences of the College of Food, Agricultural,
and Environmental Sciences as nonvoting members; and two representatives
from each commodity group, organization, association, having
a relationship with the Department of H&CS or academic
programs working in the plant sciences or organized entity.
One representative will be designated the Primary member and
will be the chief paid member of a commodity group, organization
or association while the other representative will be designated
the Secondary Member and may be elected officer of said commodity
group, organization or association. (Each Organization member
will be entitled to ONE vote and may be cast by either the
Primary or Secondary Member.)
MEETINGS: A minimum of two meetings per year will be
held with other meetings scheduled as an as-needed basis.
DUES: Dues
shall be $50 per year for each member . Additional funds may
be raised as needed.
