Internship Policies & Procedures
All students majoring in PGM at Ohio State are required to complete at least 16 months (five academic quarters) of internships prior to graduation. To meet the minimum of 16 months, students must enroll for 10 credit hours of H&CS 489: Internship (2 hours each in the summer of freshman, sophomore and junior years and 4 hours in the summer and autumn of the senior year). Students must work full time for 6 weeks for each credit hour enrolled. Work activities/experiences during the freshman internship will pertain to Checkpoint 1 of the PGA/PGM program. Work activities/experiences during the sophomore internship will pertain to Checkpoint 2 of the PGA/PGM program. Work activities/experiences during the junior and senior internships will pertain to Checkpoint 3 of the PGA/PGM program.
Ohio ranks fifth among U.S. states for the number of golf courses (~ 800). Most of these courses/clubs, as well as many other Ohio golf facilities and golf-related businesses can serve as appropriate sites for OSU PGM students to conduct their internships. In addition, there is the opportunity for OSU PGM students to intern at high quality sites across the United States and internationally. Internships are available at university, municipal, public, private and semi-private courses/clubs, resorts, retail stores, learning centers, golf club manufacturers, and sport management companies. With this range of internship opportunities available, OSU PGM students will be able to gain a breadth of experience in the golf industry, but also are able to focus on specific areas relevant to their own career goals.
