  Wejchert Golf Club

During my summer trip to Poland I had an opportunity to visit Wejchert Golf Club that is currently under construction in Brzesce near Warsaw. The golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II and the project is being executed by Benedetti Golf International. The property consist of 18-hole championship parkland style golf course, 9- hole golf academy, and a driving range / teaching center. Construction started April 2008. The first phase consisted of rough grading and the major earthwork is completed. Currently the drainage and irrigation systems are being installed.

Prior to the construction of the golf course the land was used for agricultural purposes. Because it is relatively flat the amount of dirt moved has been 430 k m3 to achieve the desired slopes and contours. The shaping was carried out using equipment controlled by GPS based programs.

Besides the moving of dirt for fairway contouring some will be used in the rough areas to add elevation changes. The greens are being constructed to USGA specifications and along with the fairways required the purchase of 70 k m3 of sand. The greens and fairways are being established to 'L93' creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera). To aid in removing excess water from the putting green rootzones, a SubAir system will be installed.

There are four ponds that have been built on the golf course. The biggest (3 ha) will serve as a water reservoir. All ponds are connected by the net of canals running along and crossing fairways.

Turf establishment is planned in 2010 and course is scheduled to open in 2011.
