Retreat - Overview

2007 Retreat Overview

The Graduate Program for the Department of Horticulture & Crop Science (H&CS) at The Ohio State University would like to invite you to The Annual H&CS Graduate Research Retreat and Open House. This event will be held October 5 and 6 (Friday afternoon and evening, and Saturday) and will provide prospective students the opportunity to learn more about the H&CS graduate program.

Who should attend? students who are interested in pursuing a graduate education and are currentlyundergraduate juniors or seniors, master students, or recent graduates.

Information will be presented on the following areas of specialization:

Breeding and Genetics
Crop Management and Production
Environmental Horticulture
Physiology and Molecular Biology
Seed Biology
Turf Science and Management
Weed Science

On Friday our visitors will have the opportunity to tour the campus and interact with our graduate students and faculty. We will have a dinner in the Arboretum Learning Gardens Gazebo and Kottman Hall. You will be able to ask any questions you may have about current research or what's it like to be a graduate student. Then on Saturday you will experience first hand a poster competition by our graduate students in addition to presentations delivered by the H&CS faculty. Complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be served for all participants. We ask that any student planning to attend submit the RSVP section of the form by September 21.

Tavel Grants:
We certainly want to encourage as many as possible to attend and so the graduate program is offering travel grants on a competitive basis to assist students with a 3.0 GPA or above and who reside more than 50 miles away. Overnight accommodations will be provided at a local hotel. For students traveling distances greater than 100 miles the grants will also provide gasoline assistance. We are asking students interested in applying for a travel grant to forward a photocopy of their transcript, a one-paragraph statement of their research interest, and the RSVP/Travel Grant Application form by September 21 to:
