Arrival and Settling In

Everyone and the luggare arrived on schedule! England greeted us with gray skies and gentle rain. We had a short wait at Manchester Airport while the differrent flights bringing the participants arrived and the mini-buses that were to take us to Myerscough made their way to us. We ended up with an unexpected adventure as we had to traverse the entire airport to where the buses were waiting for us. Fortunately we had carts to carry our luggare, but the route we followed required we use 5 different setselvators (lifts)! Some of these were small and could handle only one or two carts at a time. This meant the walk took approximately 30 minutes! Nevertheless, once we made it to the buses, our little adventure was soon forgotten as we drove the 37 miles to Myerscough. We were all exhausted, but a full day of settling in activities (room assignments, dining room procedures, identification cards, confirmation of interntet connection, and a tour of the campus) kept us -- barely-- awake.

That evening found us crashing and going to sleep quickly (though a couple of intrepid souls made it to Preston with some locals for an evening in the town). Saturday morning was restful and in the afternoon we made it to Preston for some touring and shopping.

That saturday evening, students were able to make some acquaintances with the local students at the Stumble Inn (below), the local pub within the college where students can relax after a hard-days work and enjoy music, sports on television, pool, and some refreshments.
