While Kew's focus is on botanical knowledge, there are groupings of plants that provide specific garden themes. Most notable among these are the Japanese garden (above) and the (what else?) rose garden (above right). Other themes were more whimsical. Below left is a bamboo garden; yes, a garden made entirely of bamboo species. At right is not a garden per se, but rather an art display that was interspersed through a grassy area of the grounds. There were dozens of stone sculptures from Kenyan artists. The use of tree stumps to support the sculptures (and duly noted that the stumps were not cut for this purpose but were obtained from already felled trees) was very effective. The sculptures were magnificent, by the way. |
