The village of Bowness on Windemere Lake is very typical of the towns that dot the picturesque Lake District of northern England. A region in Cumbria made famous by romantic poets such as William Wordsworth and by the children stories of Beatrix Potter, the Lake District is quite popular as a vacation spot in England. We made a brief stop there on Friday, 16 June 2000 on our way to Grizedale Forest. The village had typically steep and curvy streets, wonderful window boxes, large Taxus baccata trees on old church yards and a swarm of tourists out on a magnificent summer day.
A sample of Wordsworth: I wandered lonely as a cloud
