York

Our intrepid duo of Audrey and Becky continue:
After Fountains Abbey we went to the city of York, which is well know for its ancient castle, churches and architecture of a walled and gated city. It is said that York "Is a unique combination of everyday life and extraordinary objects".

The streets of York are packed with great shopping opportunties, especially chocolates (yum!). The streets of York surround famous monuments such as the amazing York Minster, a beautiful church. The famous York Castle watchtower is still in the city and has been a model for many other castles that came after York.

York is a very popular tourist destination. Our visit coincided with that of many other fellow americans, quite a few germans, some japanese and some french. In addition, as the English school year is drawing to a close, many local school groups are taking field trips to places such as York.
