The Cordell's Garden
Our visit to the private garden of Edith and Peter Cordell was a unique experience to a 'plant collectors' garden. The garden itself is situated on a 1-acre lot but contained myriad garden types- a vegetable garden, woodland garden and alpine garden. Our personal tour given by Edith started in the backyard through this trellised area, which ultimately lead to the vegetable garden. Edith had been picking black currants just before our arrival from the garden. |

Here is a view of one of the paths in the woodland garden. Ferns are one of Edith's passions just as alpine's are Peter's. In fact, most of the plants from the smallest alpine to the larger tree specimens have been seed-grown by Peter and this aspect makes it hard to imagine that the garden is only twenty years old. |

Kate found the alpine garden, which was part of the front yard area, intriguing with its wide range of unusual specimens from Peter's collecting trips. Unfortunate for us, he was in China collecting when we visited. |
Above is just one example of Edith's love of art in the garden. These sandstone obelisks created a dynamic focal point for the natural and relaxed backyard setting. |
