Gresgarth Hall Continued

Pictured above is a formal culinary garden. This is one of the highlights of the estate. The rows of hedges separate peas, cabbages and other vegetables from herbs and roses. Other flowers add color and variety to the garden.

Sarah and Chris admire the lime trees growing in the garden. These trees are a good example of pleaching. The branches are tied to parallel bamboo canes. This pulls the branches out, altering the tree's growth to form a solid mass of foliage atop a bare trunk. The final effect will be similar to a hedge in the air.

Intricate stone work, like the tiles pictured above serves as an elegant accent near the perennial border of the garden.

On the right, Janeen strolls by flowering shrubs in Lady Arabella's garden. The garden was a huge hit for the Ohio State group. It was one of everyone's favorite visits!
