INGLETON & MORECAMBE
On Sunday we headed back to "God's Own County" (Yorkshire) and the limestone area around Ingleton. Our first stop was White Scar Cavern which is about half-way up Ingleborough Mountain. This is a cave formed by a stream running at the junction of the Mississippian limestone and the underlying Silurian slate. We were kitted out with hard hats because many of the passages are only 5 feet high. Elsewhere we were able to stand up and admire the stalagmites and stalactities.

A stream runs into and through much of the cave. In places it was hard to avoid getting wet.
Once outside we went on the Ingleton Falls walk (Following in the footsteps of earlier study abroad groups). Some of us chose to get wet again (Mike and Adam behind the falls) while others chose to contemplate the peaceful scene. We ended the day on the endless sands of Morecambe Beach. |
