CLIENT BRIEF
|
|

|
|
The area that sits between the Pantry area and the Quad is in need
of serious development. It is a mixture of varying paving materials
that are not in good condition and also do not provide any kind of unity.
Quite the opposite, the area is disjointed and ugly.

The plantings have no obvious theme or structure. Apart from the area
by the door (below left), the plantings provide no interest and have
very little aesthetic value.

Issues to address:
- The area needs to have adequate seating for students and staff to
enjoy.
- a unified desgin that provides the area with an attractive floor.
- Some form of shelter on the northern side to offer some protection
from the elements. What kind of materials will solve this issue?
- Planting - although not essential as the immediate surrounding spaces
have an abundance of organic material. In saying that the client would
request plantings. The designers would need to take on board the role
that the space provides. Firstly a means of gaining access to the
College restaurant and pantry as well as providing access to the quad
and sporting facilities. There needs to be ample access with a large
area for walking. Secondly the area is for recreational relaxation
whereby students and staff can have seating and planting that provides
a high quality aesthetic area. The exisiting plantings are to be removed
apart from the tree and the southern area plantings.
- The bike shed needs to be removed - an area needs to be identified
to relocate.
- There is a distinct change in levels at the northern end of the
site. How can that be solved? Steps - ramps - a mixture?
