After clearing the site and excavating old sub-base, we marked out areas of pavers and planting beds and fixed pegs to show the desired level of new sub-base. We tamped down the areas under the paving and started bringing in gravel.

We thought everything ws going well when we noticed a large area of soft ground. We dug this out and filled the hole with broken flags.

After resolving this problem we finished off putting in sub-base, tamped it down and checked our levels one more time.
