Saturday, May 22, brought us to a small town in Wales called Conwy. Here we found ourselves dwarfed by an immense medieval castle. The castle, and the town that its walls enclose were constructed from 1283-1292. |
Edward I had this fortification built to secure the English stronghold over the Conwy Valley. With the rear of the castle surrounded by the Irish Sea and the front looking at mountainous terrain, this was an excellent site choice. This is proven by the fact the the castle welcomes visitors from around the world seven days a week. |

This castle served many purposes other than fortifications, and thus it had many different rooms. Amongst them one could find a chapel, great hall range, numerous towers, and a prison. There was even a room devoted completely to hold the king's wardrobe. |

The castle is a landmark for northern Wales, and it draws tourists from around the world. It still stands today as a symbol of the determination and pride of the people of Conwy. Hopefully, with some slight conservation it will last for years to come. |
