JA Jones, a large nursery near Southport in northwest England, was established over 100 years ago. It is mainly a wholesale cash and carry operation but frequently opens to the public on weekends. Besides trees, the nursery does a good business supplying 2-3 liter container shrubs and herbaceous ornamentals. In the past decade there has been a resurgence in the use of herbaceous material, and more recently a trend in the use of Mediterranean species. |
|
The nursery mainly produces three to four year old deciduous trees for larger landscape contractors. They produce their own liner stock and import other plant materials from Italy, Germany, France and Holland. Right is a group of trees ready for sale this season. |

JA Jones supplies plant materials across the U.K. They are especially a large supplier to Scotland where there are few ornamental nurseries. Here, a shipment is packed in crates, ready for delivery to Scotland. |
