Liverpool

We visited Liverpool with Mike Pennington to see some aspects of landscape in relation to urban regeneration. Our first stop was the Albert Dock:

Liverpool was once the main seaport for the UK, serving the transatlantic trade. Now that the pattern of trade has shifted towards Europe and cargo is handled in containers the traditional docks no longer serve their original purpose. The buildings have been converted to shops, cafes, galleries and other tourist attractions (The Beatles Story: A Magical Experience!)


Walking around the docks we admired the combination of traditional hardscape materials.


This use of pleached and espaliered limes around parking areas impressed us as a neat screening idea.
