Ribble Reclamation

Ribble Reclamation is a reclamation yard for people wishing to decorate their home gardens with period pieces. The company recovers materials from buildings during demolition, and then sells the pieces from the yard. In this way the company helps to preserve the historical features and encourages recycling of materials in the landscape.

Shown here is one of the signs used to greet customers upon entering the yard, tucked among some of the stone works available for sale.

Walking through the yard a customer can choose from a range of hardscape items for their gardens, such as flagstone, pillars, and statuary. The inventory is organized throughout the yard according to its use in the garden.

The yard is seen by the customers as a mixture of old and new. Shown in this picture is more of the inventory of the yard. The slate tables in the foreground were made by the company with reclaimed bases.

Ribble has aquired a substantial amount of sandstone from India, which has fossils dotted throughout. The company has been able to cut the stone to flags for resale. Total so far, Ribble has invested the equivalent of $100,000 in this stone and hopes to become a major supplier of these flags. It is actually cheaper for a customer to buy this new material than recycled York stone.

Among the inventory available to customers are statues and fountains. Many pieces are left for the customers to fix up as desired. Most of the pieces are, however, repaired and repainted by the company for the garden.
