Congratulations, Bradley Snyder! 2nd place winner of the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum
Brad Snyder, a senior majoring in Sustainable Plant Systems with a specialization in Agronomy, has received 2nd place in the Agriculture/Environmental Science division for the 2013 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum was created in 1996 by Richard and Martha Denman. The Forum is designed to encourage undergraduate students to conduct research and develop an appreciation for research as a part of their education. Brad submitted research on the DNA Sequence Evaluation of the Rag5 Locus for Soybean Aphid Resistance. His research was conducted in the Laboratory of Dr. Leah McHale. Brad Snyder was also a winner in the CFAES Undergraduate Research Forum. Brad plans on graduating in May 2013.
Henry Peller a Sustainable Plant Systems Major named a Udall Scholar
Henry Peller, a junior majoring in Sustainable Plant Systems and a personalized study program through ASC, has been named a Udall Scholar. One of only 50 students selected for this honor nationwide (and the only from Ohio), the Udall recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to careers related to the environment. Congratulations to Eric Billman, 2012 Golden Opportunities Scholar
Congratulations to Eric Billman, who was selected as a 2012 Golden Opportunities Scholar by the Crops Science Society of America (CSSA), American Society of Agronomy (ASA) and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). There were 20 Scholars selected from within North and central America based on their academic achievements and interest in agronomy, crop and soil sciences. The Golden Opportunity Scholars program encourages talented students to study agronomy, crop and soil sciences while cultivating networks to develop the necessary workforce to sustain the profession. They participated in the annual meetings of CSSA/ASA/SSA in Cincinnati, 20-24 October 2012.

Turfgrass Science Alumni in MLB Playoffs
The Cincinnati Reds are hosting the Major League Baseball playoffs at Great American Ball Park this month and several HCS Turfgrass Management alumni are front and center. From left to right: Derrick Grubbs, Assistant Head Groundskeeper (BS 2004); Doug Gallant, Head Groundskeeper (BS 1994) and Robbie Dworkin, Ball Park Grounds Supervisor (BS 2010). Current Turfgrass Science Major Tyler Turner (not pictured) is also on the Reds ground crew.
Undergrad Represents Ohio at National Convention
Sustainable Plant Systems Major Colin Barclay has been selected to represent the State of Ohio at the National FFA Organization (formerly Future Farmers of America). Colin is the state candidate for the role of National Officer within the organization. It is a huge honor to be selected and if chosen he will be taking a year away from his studies to fulfill Officer duties. The National FFA work with students to promote leadership and career success in the agricultural industry. In addition to his FFA commitments, Colin has always played an active role in the department, such as serving as the College Ambassador. We wish him luck in the upcoming election!
National Scholarship Winners at STMA

Nick Fisher (3rd left) and Travis Hohlbein (2nd right) were awarded undergraduate scholarships.
Rohanna will Go Far!
Rachel Rohanna (Agribusiness/Turfgrass) is a senior and one of the best golfers at The Ohio State University. It is expected that at the end of her studies she will become a professional golfer, though she also has a grain farm that she runs with her fiance. A campus newspaper ran a nice article about her that you can read here.
