| | Class times & Attendance | 9:00-10:48 a.m., Monday & Wednesday, Rm. 116 Howlett Hall Attendance is Required for ALL class sessions. Students involved in activities for other classes which will result in an absence need to submit a letter in writing indicating the activity and affected dates. Students who miss class due to illness or weather conditions need to contact me before class by phone or email. Unexcused absenses will result in point deductions from the final grade. | | Prerequisite | Desire to learn more about communication technologies and how they can assist professionals in ALL fields. | | Textbook | None required. A variety of online references will be developed throughout the quarter and made available. For those desiring more information, I will gladly advise you on what may be helpful. The course website is: hcs.osu.edu/virtual | | Course Objectives | This course is intended to be an introduction to a variety of open source and Web 2.0 communication technologies that show potential for turf, landscape, golf and other professionals. Issues related authoring, delivering, and integrating these applications into an overall communication system will be presented. Specific objectives include: - Familiarize students with the variety of communication sytems technologies available to a professional manager and their possible applications.
- Develop skills in using the Internet to access and disseminate information.
- Provide the opportunity for students to work collaboratively on expanding and/or developing new online resources for H&CS in Virtual Perspective.
- Prepare students to evaluate, utilize, and develop computer applications which will benefit them in their career.
| | Evaluation | Course grade will be determined by various aassignments including but not limited to: Postings to the class blog, Monday Morning Mini Presentations, Image uploading and authoring in the class social network, creating various Podcasts, Term Project and Attendance/Participation. Final grades will be determined according to the following: | 93 - 100% = A | 87 - 89% = B+ | 77 - 79% = C+ | 67 - 69% = D+ | | 90 - 92% = A- | 83 - 86% = B | 73 - 76% = C | 63 - 66% = D | | | 80 - 82% = B- | 70 - 72% = C- | | Assignments not turned in by the due date will loose 50% - Unless prior arrangements have been made. Grades will be posted and available to each of you through the course Carmen website.
