HW5 - Potentials for Podcasting |
|
|
|
As before, HW#5 has several activities. First, you are going to embed your Web 2.0 presentation recording into Blog #2. Second, you are going to start a NEW blog posting describing the potentials for Podcasting in your field. Third, you will develop a 2-3 minute audio recording describing your outlook for Podcasting in your field. This could focus on education (all levels), employee training, customer relations, or any other aspect that you like. This audio file will be saved online and linked into your new blog posting. STATUS: Part 1 id numbers are available for the presentations that have been recorded (See below). Part 3 voice recorder IS available for taking your calls. (See below for hours of operation)
Instructions: Part 1 - Embed Web 2.0 Presentation in Second blog (10 points) - Log into the class blog and click on edit for your Blog#2. Enter "Guided Tour of (insert your website name) " on a blank line following the end of your text and create a hyperlink to your Web 2.0 Presentation file.
The path to your recording is: http://hcs.osu.edu/podcasts/display.qtl?id=xxx Replace xxx with the appropriate id number listed next to your site name below.

- Click on Preview and check your blog . You should see a new link in your posting. Click on it. Did you see and hear your presentation? If you did, be sure to click on Publish, to save the changes. You must have QuickTime player software loaded for this to work. (Download QuickTime) Check my example: Google Docs & Spreadsheets
Instructions: Part 2 - Create New Blog Posting (20 points) - Create a new Blog Post in the Virtual560 Network. Be sure to enter HW5 as your tag. This time, your blog is about the Potentials for Podcasting in your field. Using your experiences in the class and any other source you want, please describe in 250 words or more the potentials for Podcasting in your field. Forecasting the future is not easy but you have been accumulating a lot of good experiences from HW#3, #4, and #5. Be creative! Not all forecasts come true but it only takes one person with a new idea to get things changed. Do NOT be negative. Saying there is no potential for podcastinging is like saying there is no potential for Radio, TV, or books in your field. It is a medium that can be utilized. What gets done is up to people with ideas.
Instructions: Part 3 - Record and Embed an Audio Recording (20 points) - Prepare to deliver a 2-3 minute audio recording which captures your thoughts and imagination on the "Potentials for Podcasting" in your field. Minimum of 2 minutes required.
- This time the audio file will be created by calling my office phone (after 5:30 pm M-F or any time on the weekend) and leaving a message at the sound of the beep. My number is (614) 292-3871. Speak clearly. I STRONGLY suggest you prepare some notes and practice your message before calling. Once you finish your message, it will be saved on my computer. You can access your file by conecting to: http://140.254.84.210/~trhodus/voice_output/
- Each recording is saved by the date and time of your call. Note the time when you called and click on the file name closest to when you called. Note the file name extension is mp3. All calls are saved. If you want to repeat your message, let the voicemail system have at least 30 seconds for processing your first call, then try again. If your message is not available at the address listed above, try the following: http://140.254.84.210/~trhodus/voicemail/CompletedSource/ If you find it in this directory, do NOT record another message. I will watch this folder and make the mp3 conversions, as needed.
- Embed your new audio file into your 3rd Blog using steps similar to HW#4 except this time you need to start with the following code:
- <p><b>Audio Review: </b> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://140.254.84.210/~trhodus/voice_output/player.swf" id="audioplayer1" height="24" width="290"><param name="movie" value="http://140.254.84.210/~trhodus/voice_output/player.swf"></param><param name="FlashVars" value="playerID=1&soundFile=http://140.254.84.210/~trhodus/voice_output/2009-02-03-08-32_64K.mp3"></param><param name="quality" value="high"></param><param name="menu" value="false"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="never"></param></object></p>
Notice the audio file name in line 4-5 of the code: 2009-02-03-08-32_64K.mp3. You need to change the name to match your new recording - Step 3. - Preview your blog. Did the audio file play? If not, review steps 2-5. Check the website to make sure you are copying the correct filename and have entered all of the code presented above. Good luck.
