HW2 - Digital Story Telling PDF Print E-mail
OSU LogoTo assist you in organizing your graphic files and using them in web-based: presentations, blogs, podcasts, and other digital stories, we will utilize Picasa.  This is a digital image management system offered by Google and is free for anyone who has a Google account.   A Picasa tutorial video is available in the Course Links under Digital Images. There are many other useful resources related to digial story telling and education. *

This assignment is due Monday, January 19th, by 9:00 am. Assignment: You are to select/generate and upload to your Picasa Web Ablum 10 digital photos. These can be original photos or copies of photos found elswhere on the Internet. The 10 photos should be chosen so as to help us learn more about you, your academic accomplishments and/or career goals. You will then embed yor slideshow from Picasa into your HW1 Blog posting. See: 280Slides.com

* These instructions are NOT based on downloading and using Picasa 3 software on your computer. That is something you can do on your own but I am not prepared to answer questions about using that software. This assignment is based around Picasa Web Albums.

Requirements:

  1. Your photos should not be smaller than 640x480 pixels (Picasa can handle larger files but if they are too large, it slows down the uploading time.)
  2. Each photo should be ordered and captioned clearly to tell your story. (You will learn to add audio later in the quarter)
  3. Your photos should NOT be offensive in any way. Any serious violators of this rule will receive a grade of "0" for the assignment.
  4. Photos and text should tell your "professional" story - academic accomplishments and future career goals.
  5. Embed your Picasa slideshow into your HW1 blog posting.

Directions:

The following directions are intended to be sufficient for this assignment but you may still need assistance. My best advice is to start the assignment right away and see if you run into any problems. Good luck!!

Part 1 - Create, upload and organize your slidewhow in Picasa

  1. Find/create/download and organize 10 appropriate slides and develop a one-two sentence caption for each one.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account. If you need to create a Google Account, go to Google.com and click on Sign In and then Create an Account Now .
  3. After signing in, click on My Account. Click on Picasa Web Albums. There isn't much to do here since you are already signed in to Google.
  4. Click on Upload. Click on Create a new album. Enter a Name and click on Continue.
  5. Now, you're ready to select your photos for uploading. Choose each file and then click Start Upload.
  6. After uploading, you need to add a caption for each photo. Once entered, you can always go back and Edit the caption. click on edit, below the photo.
  7. Preview your slideshow. If you need to reorder your photos, click on My Photos and then your album. Click on Edit in the menu bar (next to Slideshow ---- Share ------ Prints ------- Edit. Select Organize & Reorder. Select a single photo and then just drag it to an alternative postion. Click Done when you are finished.

  5. Click in the box that shows the code for Embed slideshow. With the text highlighted, type Cntrl C to copy the text into memory  (or click on Edit Copy in the browser's main menu) Click Done.

You should see several lines of code on the blog posting. Click on Preview at the bottom of the blog. If the slideshow appears at the bottom of the blog, you did it!!! Click on Publish.
