On Monday, January 26th, your second posting to Virtual560 Ning Network is due. Deadline is 9:00 am. This time, your posting is about your selected Web 2.0 Award site. Remember: you must sign-up for a particular site before you can write your review. View short list. You discussion needs to describe the site, it's purpose, the Web 2.0 Award category it represents, how you use the site as a subscriber, how you use the site as a non-subscriber and what you think of the concept/service. Assignment:
In Monday's class, be prepared to orally discuss your topic and share the significance of this concept with the rest of the class. We will be audio recording your comments. Each person needs to speak for a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of three minutes. The resulting audio podcast will be incorporated into your blog as part of HW4. My example in Ning: Google Docs & Spreadsheets Actual code used in my posting:
Google Docs & Spreadsheets is a free web-based word processing and spreadsheet program. It allows users to create and edit documents and spreadsheets online while collaborating in real-time with other users. You also control who has permission to view your documents/files. Once you are finished editing a document, it can be saved to your computer in various formats, including MS Word and HTML. It can also be published to the Internet with a web address that others can access.

Google Docs requires you to register with Google. It is not complicated and can be used with other Google services. Google Docs has some useful editing tools like spell checking, image inserting, hyperlinking, bolding, indenting, ordered and unordered lists, plus left, right and full justification.

Google Docs is a great idea for getting people together quickly and working on a shared writing assignment. Things like homework reports, qroup reports, project proposals, or even news stories can get done quicker and easier when everyone involved is allowed to edit the paper directly on Google and do not have to send email attachments back and forth.

Google Docs started out as Writely, an individual web-based word processor. It was created by the software company Upstartle. In early 2006, Google acquired Upstartle. Google announced Spreadsheets on June 6, 2006, and initially made it available to only a limited number of users. The limited test was then lifted, and replaced with a beta version available to all Google Account holders. Google Docs & Spredsheets is part of the Collaborative Writing & Word Processing category of Web 2.0 award winning websites.

Guided tour of Google Docs & Spreadsheets - Not required in HW3.
