1. John Finer named as AAAS fellow

    John Finer, professor in HCS, will be recognized as a fellow at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, in Boston, MA on February 16, 2013.

    Eighteen Ohio State University faculty members were elected into the newest class of fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

  2. Ten students win awards at the 2012 Graduate Research Retreat

    Ten HCS graduate students won awards at the Research Retreat on October 12 and 13 in Columbus. Sixteen students made oral presentations and 10 displayed posters describing results of their research on topics ranging from molecular genetics to food safety to medicinal plants.
    The Retreat was organized and conducted by graduate students and was funded in part by contributions from industry and other stakeholders.

    HCS students at the National Sports Turf Managers Association Conference in Long Beach CA, January 2012. Masters student Matt Williams (L) won the SAFE Foundation Graduate Scholarship for his work on shade stress in sports stadia. Nick Fisher (3rd left) and Travis Hohlbein (2nd right) were awarded undergraduate scholarships.

  7. Rohanna will Go Far!

    Rachel Rohanna (Agribusiness/Turfgrass) is a senior and one of the best golfers at The Ohio State University. It is expected that at the end of her studies she will become a professional golfer, though she also has a grain farm that she runs with her fiance.  A campus newspaper ran a nice article about her that you can read here.

    Sustainable Plant Systems Major Colin Barclay has been selected to represent the State of Ohio at the National FFA Organization (formerly Future Farmers of America). Colin is the state candidate for the role of National Officer within the organization. It is a huge honor to be selected and if chosen he will be taking a year away from his studies to fulfill Officer duties.

    The Cincinnati Reds are hosting the Major League Baseball playoffs at Great American Ball Park this month and several HCS Turfgrass Management alumni are front and center.   10. HCS Alumni Brad Bergefurd Receives the Shirley Brooks Jones Award

    Brad Bergefurd has been an Extension educator and horticulturist at the OSU South Centers in Piketon since 1992. The Shirley Brooks Jones Award is given to one who promotes the college's core values and goals. The college's core values are discovery, life-long learning, science-based knowledge, academic freedom, civility, professionalism, and diversity.
