  1. Stephanie Verhoff awarded a 2015 United Soybean Board Fellowship!

    Stephanie Verhoff was selected as one of two 2015 United Soybean Board Fellowship recipients. The United Soybean Board (USB) Fellowship promotes graduate education in the area of Plant Sciences, emphasizing the development of improved soybean varieties, understanding soybean genetics, and developing improved ways to grow and use soybeans. The fellowship provides a $25,000 annual stipend to the student for up to four years.

    Three proposals from Horticulture and Crop Science graduate students were accepted at the SEEDS Graduate Proposal Competition.

  4. Vivian Bernau and Nathan Taitano awarded a SEEDS grant!

    Vivian (co-advised by Kristin Mercer) and Nathan (Esther van der Knaap's lab) were awarded a grant from OARDC SEEDS in support of their proposal entitiled, "Finding the genetic basis of use traits and climate adaptations in chile peppers (Capsicum spp.) of southern Mexico."

  9. HCS Staff work with Local Elementary School

    Staff from the Department of  Horticulture & Crop Science have been working with a local elementary school to develop a landscape club. The club is designed so that kids learn about plants and their importance in our lives. Each week Pamela Sherratt is a guest lecturer at Colerain Elementary with the Columbus City Schools. She works with 5th grade science teacher Mr. Robert Owens, who started the program. Plants have been donated by OSU Chadwick Horticulturalist, Kathy Burkholder,  and local garden centers.

  10. Union County Master Gardener Scholarship

    The Master Gardeners of Union County, Ohio is a volunteer group helping OSU Extension to educate and assist the community in horticultural pursuits. A scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded to one applicant. Only one scholarship will be awarded per year. Applicants are eligible to apply in future years.
