An educator, author and media personality, Melinda Myers is a true "garden communicator"! Whether she is working with her horticulture students, answering garden questions on her radio program or consulting with industry members, Myers loves talking with people about plants and gardening. "As a garden communicator it is rewarding to help people have fun and success in their garden," she explains.

"We all know the environmental value of plants - they clean the air, purify the water, reduce heating costs and provide food, shelter and fuel for living creatures. What we often forget is how they touch our lives - our hearts and souls," says Myers.

Gardening is more than a well-designed landscape for this horticulturist. "A beautiful landscape can increase the value of your home - but it can also make it a peaceful retreat from the stresses of the day. Gardening is also packed with rewards beyond the food and flowers we grow," Myers points out. "The physical activity can reduce blood pressure, increase fitness and help strengthen our muscles. The joy and surprise that gardening brings with each season and each year renews our spirits and keeps the optimists alive in us all."

Myers fondly recalls her undergraduate training at OSU, "The whole OSU experience formed the foundation for my career. The faculty and my fellow students made it a special experience." Myers encourages interested students to, "Get involved in classes, with club activities and the profession. I was involved in the student club LAFF and had an opportunity to meet national leaders in the industry. I still benefit from these activities."
