“Academia in Saudia Arabia- reflections from a visit in 2015.”

Abstract: Saudi Arabia is a country of contrast, with many systems and processes in common with USA, but also, with many unique characteristics. This applies especially to their academic programs. During May 2015, I was invited to Saudi Arabia (King Saud University, in Riyadh) to spend a week in their Department of Plant Production. During that week our panel reviewed their Program Objectives, Assessment Systems, and Academic programs. I was impressed by the similarity with the academic structure here at The Ohio State University. The purpose was for accreditation of their program, and I was to learn the difference between accreditation processes, and how little I understood about academic accreditation in USA. This seminar will reflect generally on the impressions gained from a week in Saudi Arabia, and compare and contrast their academic program in Horticulture and Crop Science with Ohio State.
