News article: Yiyun Lin awarded a position in the BIO 2019 I-Corps Bio-Entrepreneurship Workshop

Yiyun Lin, a PhD student in Michelle Jones lab in Horticulture and Crop Science has been awarded a position in the BIO 2019 I-Corps Bio-Entrepreneurship Workshop and access to the 2019 BIO International Convention in Philadelphia in early June.

PhD sudent Yiyun Lin was selected to be one of three Altman Family Scholars. The Altman Family Scholarship was created in 2015 by Ken and Deena Altman—owners of Altman Plants—as one of numerous efforts supported by the couple to improve education and research for the industry. Ken Altman has been actively involved in AFE’s Education and Scholarship Committees, and has served on the AFE Board for more than a decade, currently in an Emeritus status.

News article: HCS and CAPS graduate student wins 1st place at American Society of Plant Biologists Midwest Section Conference

The event is the American Society of Plant Biologists Midwest Section Conference that took place March 16th and 17th at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.

Katie D’Amico-Willman's presentation was titled “Profiling Genome-Wide DNA Methylation in Identical Twin Almonds to Explore Aging and Non-Infectious Bud Failure” and focused on results from a whole-genome bisulfite sequencing experiment she performed in collaboration with UC Davis and Michigan State University to develop predictors of bud failure in almond.
