It is with great pleasure we share the news that Mark Jordan has received the inaugural HCS Distinguished Alumni Award! Mark graduated with the class of 1986 and has had an illustrious career in the turfgrass industry so far. He currently serves as the Natural Resources Leader for Westfield Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio.

Mark received the award on April 17th, 2024, at the inaugural Horticulture & Crop Science Departmental (HCS) Spring Soiree at The Ohio State University Faculty Club. It was an evening celebration of the many great accomplishments our students, staff, faculty, alumni, & friends of HCS have achieved recently.

Dr. Karl Danneberger nominated Mark for this honor & ultimately an awards committee selected Mark to receive this award for bringing distinction to himself and the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at-large through his actions, commitment, and leadership. Dr. Danneberger was kind enough to share the following remarks regarding Mark receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award: "Over the 30 plus years at Westfield, Mark has distinguished himself through his dedication to the golf course industry. He has served as President of the Northern Ohio Golf Course Superintendents Association; as president of the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation; and recently as President of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America. As a note, Mark is our first graduate to hold that position.

Mark has long been active in our program which has included guest lecturing and serving as a mentor to students. Recently, Mark as President of the Golf Course Superintendents was instrumental in establishing a partnership among our department and the university with Wilberforce University.

This partnership has resulted in 10 students from Wilberforce enrolling in our golf/turf management courses for credit in the last year. We hope this partnership will continue to expose non-traditional students to opportunities in our department.

It is an honor to recognize Mark who represents our department as an advocate and supporter."
