The 2024 American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) Conference was an action + knowledge packed adventure for the many HCS students, staff & faculty who attended the meeting this fall! Here's just a few of our highlights...
Members of the Owen Lab (Dr. Garrett Owen, Lauren Seltsam, Ty Rich, and Lark Wuetcher) presented 2 oral presentations each. Lauren Seltsam won third place in the graduate student oral Plant Growth Regulation Competition for her research on “Quantifying Growth Control of Ornamental Millet ‘Jester’ with Ancymidol, Ethephon, Flurprimidol, Paclobutrazol, and Uniconazole Substrate Drenches.”
From the Jones Lab (Dr. Michelle Jones and Juan Quijia Pillajo) both presented. Juan Quijia Pillajo won third place in the graduate student oral Floriculture Competition for his research on "Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria Isolated From Greenhouse Ornamentals Solubilize Phosphate In Vitro And Ameliorate P Deficiency Symptoms In Marigold ‘Durango Yellow’ Fertilized With Calcium Phosphate". Additionally, Lydia Balogh, member of Dr. Jessica Cooperstone's Lab attended and presented on pomology!
Dr. Yu Ma received the ASHS Plant Biotechnology Professional Interest Group Early Career Excellence Award and presented on the Ornamental Plant Germplasm Center (OPGC). Dr. Fernanda Krupek led a panel on career advice and a session on local foods. Dr. Yiyun Lin, member of Dr. Chieri Kubota's Lab presented as well on growth chambers and strawberry production.
