Congratulations to Brenda Medina Privatt for taking home 1st place in the Proposal Posters Category at the Graduate Research Symposium. The Graduate Research Symposium is an annual event hosted by the HCS Graduate Student Association that provides HCS students and faculty from both our Wooster and Columbus campuses the opportunity to come together to share their research!
Brenda is currently pursuing her master's degree under the advisement of Drs. Edward Nangle and Florence Sessoms. Her thesis research is working to create sustainable innovations in agriculture to help bridge the gap between industry needs and environmental responsibility. We're thrilled to have Brenda in our department and fortunately she had a few moments to shed some further insight into her experiences at the 2025 Graduate Research Symposium...
WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ON WINNING THIS AWARD?
Winning 1st place in the Proposal Posters category at the HCS GRS was a truly rewarding experience. It was exciting to present my research and receive valuable feedback from faculty members and fellow students. It also reaffirmed the importance of my work and motivated me to keep pushing forward with my advisors and lab mates, who are a key part of this achievement!
HOW WAS THE GRS FOR YOU OVERALL?
The symposium was a fantastic opportunity to engage with fellow students and learn about the diverse projects happening in HCS. One of my favorite moments was connecting with fellow students based in Columbus, some are from Latin America, like me. It is wonderful to see our community making progress in our professional careers.
HOW’S YOUR RESEARCH GOING CURRENTLY?
My research on soy-based slow-release fertilizer is moving forward well! We are currently refining our formulation and evaluating its performance, which has been both challenging and exciting. I’m excited to see how these developments can contribute to sustainable fertilizer options for homeowners and lawncare operators.
