Congratulations to Caitlyn Tasney on receiving the 2024 CFAES Distinguished Senior Award! Caitlyn's a Professional Golf Management major + she's just a few weeks away from graduating.
The Distinguished Senior Award honors top graduating seniors on the Ohio State Columbus campus who exemplify the CFAES mission in areas such as academics and scholarship, research and innovation, service and involvement, and influence and leadership. Only 23 Seniors were selected for this honor - what a great way to cap off her time as an undergrad!
Luckily, Caitlyn had a moment to share a bit about her experiences as an undergrad here at Ohio State...
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN Professional Golf Management?
Caitlyn: I have played golf basically my whole life and after trying a couple of other majors at different schools while playing college golf, I realized that I wanted golf to be a part of my life and a part of my career. So, when I transferred to Ohio State and found they had the PGM Program, it was like it was meant to be.
COULD YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A PGM MAJOR?
Caitlyn: My experience as a PGM major has been different. While going to school, I was also working at my internship full time as well. I was always on the go with both work and school, while also making time between both of those to play in the PGM tournament events that were held at OSU Golf Club. I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything as I have made wonderful connections, have met some of my lifelong friends and found my career during this process.
DO YOU HAVE PLANS LINED UP FOR POST-GRADUATION?
Caitlyn: I have accepted a full time, Assistant Golf Professional position at my current internship site.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR STUDENTS CONSIDERING BECOMING A PGM MAJOR?
Caitlyn: I would say take full advantage of all the opportunities the major hands out. Tim and Chris will always be there for anything you need and make going through the program very simple. They also have classes where people will come in who work in the golf industry and this is a great way to make more connections and learn even more about the golf industry.
From all of us here in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science we wish you the best as you become an alumnus + begin your career!
P.S.
