Global Opportunity: All Majors Invited to Explore Chile’s Agricultural Powerhouse

Feb. 25, 2026

Quick! Get your application in for one of the most dynamic winter global education programs: Chile: Agriculture and Agroecosystems. While hosted by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), this program is open to students from all colleges and majors across the university.

Traveling from December 28, 2026, to January 9, 2027, participants will trade the Ohio winter for the Chilean summer to study a nation that has become a global leader in horticultural exports.

The Journey

Based out of Santiago in partnership with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the program isn't just a classroom experience, it’s a road trip through the heart of Chilean industry.

  • Locations: Santiago, La Serena, and Valdivia.

  • Travel: Private coach transport between sites (1–4 hour scenic drives).

  • Accommodations: Shared hotels or cabins; you'll move every few days to keep up with the action!

What You’ll Experience

This is an active, outdoor program designed to give you a 360-degree view of the global export economy. You will:

  • Tour Diverse Operations: Visit wineries, nurseries, and fruit, grain, and vegetable farms.

  • Dive into Aquaculture: Explore bustling fisheries and cutting-edge aquatic facilities.

  • Analyze Critical Issues: Engage in discussions on water rights, environmental challenges, and the future of trade across the Americas.

 Engagement Expectations

Expect to be on the move! You’ll spend 2–3 hours daily walking through rural and mountainous terrain. If you love fresh air, uneven trails, and seeing where your food comes from, this is the trip for you.

Earn Credit While You Travel

All participants enroll in HCS 5097.03, which includes a pre-departure component during the Autumn 2026 semester to provide a foundation in Chilean history and culture. Because this is an Ohio State-sponsored program, the credits are graded and can often fulfill elective or general education requirements. Students from any college should consult with their academic advisor to see how these credits fit into their specific degree plan.

Join an Upcoming Information Session

The best way to see if this program is right for you is to attend one of our upcoming sessions. You’ll meet the faculty leads, review the itinerary, and get tips on the application process. Plus there will be pizza & pop!
