Congratulations to Dr. Laura Lindsey on receiving the 2024-2025 College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Distinguished Extension Faculty Award! Dr. Lindsey is a Professor and Soybean + Small Grains Extension Specialist here in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science (HCS).

Luckily, she had a moment to share her thoughts on this achievement as well as a bit about her approach to Extension work...

WHat are your thoughts on receiving this award?

I'm extremely honored to receive this award by doing a job that I love.

What got you interested in extension?

When I started my PhD at Michigan State, I had a part-time appointment in Extension. I really enjoyed applied research and taking that research back to farmers.

What’s one of the most interesting things you’ve Learned while conducting extension work?

The best research ideas come directly from farmers! I enjoy talking with farmers about their observations and experiences. A lot of these conversations turn into research projects.

What's your most exciting current extension project?

My favorite Extension project right now is "Battle for the Belt". It's fun collaborating with Dr. Ortez and many others in Extension.
