Are you ready to test your knowledge about all things turfgrass science while building your teamwork, identification, memorization and reasoning skills? Then our Turfgrass Science Competitive Team may be a great fit for you!
Our Turfgrass Science Competitive Team competes at two national contests annually and is a subgroup of our Turf Club which is co-advised by HCS professor Dr. David Gardner and HCS SPS: Turfgrass Science alum Brandon Stith.
The first contest of the year is in conjunction with the Sports Field Managers Association (SFMA) Conference and Exhibition in January. In February, the Turf Bowl is held in conjunction with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Conference and Show. In both events, students in teams of 4 compete in a 3-hour knowledge contest that tests student skills with identification of grasses, identification and management of pests and all aspects of management including fertilization, mowing and irrigation. These contests are held annually at locations across the southern United States.
