Phi Alpha Xi President, Frank Rogers and PAX Vice President Mary Kay Klenkar officiated the PAX Induction Ceremony for 11 new members. Pax Leaders and Chadwick Arboretum are hosting their annual Poinsettia Sale fundraiser, 11/29 and 11/30, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Howlett Greenhouses,680 Vernon Tharp St, Columbus, OH 43210. Proceeds raised are used for PAX dues, ceremonies, guest lecture series and travel to deepen their connection to Horticulture.

Ohio State Attends First Bioeconomy Conference

Over 40 Student Delegates, Faculty Mentors, and Leadership Team members of the Consortium for Advanced Bioeconomy Leadership Education (CABLE) have just returned from ABLC Next, a conference dedicated to the most important issues in the bioeconomy, in San Francisco, California. Ohio State was represented by Associate Professor Leah McHale, Ph.D., and Sustainable Plant Systems major, Keeley Overmyer.

Students in HCS 3370 renovate local baseball field

A group of students in HCS 3370: Sports Turf Management renovated the Upper Arlington High School baseball field on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. The project, developed by course instructor Pam Sherratt, gives students an opportunity for hands-on experience in maintenance and repair techniques vital to their future careers in turfgrass science and sports field management. The students worked with turfgrass expert, Matt Williams (OARDC Research Operations), to measure the baseball field, repair and finish the pitcher’s mound. This is the eleventh year of this hands-on project.

Dr. Katrina Cornish wins the AE Thompson Award

Dr. Katrina Cornish has been awarded the A. E. Thompson Career Achievement Award by the Association for the Advancement of Industrial Crops. ​This award was established to honor Dr. A.E. (Tommy) Thompson for his many achievements and lasting contributions to the AAIC and the development of industrial crops and products. This award is given to a person who throughout his or her career has made significant contributions to the development and/or utilization of industrial crops and/or products.

HCS Graduate students win awards at annual meeting of the Society for In Vitro Biology

Two Horticulture and Crop Science graduate students won awards at the 2017 annual meeting of the Society for In Vitro Biology in Raleigh, North Carolina. 

Andika Gunadi received first place in the graduate student oral competition for a presentation titled: "Soybean (Glycine max) Promoter Characterization through CRISPRi”

Eric Dean received second place in the graduate student poster competition for a presentation titled: "A Soybean Glycinin Promoter Drives High Cotyledon-enhanced Expression in Both Somatic and Zygotic Embryos"
