Married with 2 kids. Proud educator & mentor. Absolutely love teaching! You can learn a bit more about me by clicking on the questions below: What got you interested in this field? I grew up on a farm and when I graduated from high school, I wasn’t really sure what was next. My dad encouraged me to go to college since our family farm wasn't big enough to support two families. Shortly after I met a student at OSU ATI who was working on an ag degree - up to this point in my life no one had told me that was an option. I immediately applied to OSU ATI for the 2+2 program (2 years at ATI then transitioning to the Columbus Main Campus to finish my bachelors degree). I've stayed here at OSU ever since. Exciting current research None currently - I'm 100% focused on teaching Rough career path that brought you to OSU In undergrad I was doing well in my classes & one of my professors told me about graduate associateships (I was shocked you could get paid to stay in college) so I went ahead and got my masters! The 1st year was great, the 2nd year my entire research trial was ruined by flooding. Needless to say, I needed more data so I talked to Dr. Loux about helping run his research trials for the summer so that I could afford to stay in grad school for an extra year. When it came time to graduate I had quite a few great offers lined up & was having a tough time deciding what to do next. Throughout school on the weekends I would help my Dad at the family farm - I knew I wanted to stay close to home & knew I could continue to learn a lot here so I took the OSU job! Over the years my decision to work here has been affirmed by the good people & the good value system here. Industry international involvement None currently Favorite industry conference North Central Weed Science Society - this was the first industry conference I ever attended & I've been going back every year since. I've also served on the board & multiple committees for this society over the years. What are you most excited about seeing happen in HCS this year New students & new faculty! What do you do in your free time If I’m not working, I’m enjoying quality time with my wife and kids. We enjoy spending summers at our lake home in northern Michigan and hiking all over Ohio the rest of the year. Want to know more? Check out my labs YouTube Channel or any of my digital books!
