Stn AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY IN EXTENSION, RESEARCH, TEACHING Ecology of plant communities in natural and managed ecosystems. Emphasis is on development of practices for reducing environmental degradation associated with crop and landscape maintenance. Current focus is on development of sustainable plant communities, weed seedbank processes, population dynamics, and use of plants to solve environmental problems in the context of ecological design. Overall research goal has been to develop a better understanding of ecological processes that provide the basis for biologically-based maintenance of managed ecosystems and to apply these concepts to solving problems of scientific and social interest.
