She is the leading U.S. scientific expert, and is internationally recognized as a principal authority, on alternative natural rubber production, properties and products, and on natural rubber biosynthesis. You can learn a bit more about me by clicking on the questions below: What got you interested in this field? Rubber biosynthesis is an interesting system that many global & health issues are directly tied to. Once I realized how important rubber is and how few people are working on it – I decided to use my crusading spirit & dedicate my career to it. Exciting current research We are working to develop a domestic natural rubber crop here in Ohio. We’re involved in all aspects of this from the gene editing side (often utilizing CRISPR technology) to categorizing the different types of rubbers (what standards does it meet, what uses will it work best for). Rough career path that brought you to OSU I’ve always been interested in research with strongly applicable goals. I initially came to the US to pursue a post-doc opportunity focused on water stress & recovery at Michigan State. Industry international involvement I’m heavily involved with the international community especially in: South Africa, Australia, Botswana & Mexico. Favorite industry conference I enjoy attending the annual meeting for the Association for the Advancement of Industrial Crops (AAIC). What are you most excited about seeing happen in HCS this year I’m very much looking forward to all the new faculty members we’ll be bringing in this year! What do you do in your free time I enjoy gardening, reading, playing the piano & violin + I sing in a community choir. Dr. Cornish is the director of research for the PENRA program, which you can learn more about here. Want to know more? Check out her lab groups Website or Twitter!
