I'm anticipating graduating Spring 2023
Research Focus:
My primary research interest is in breeding high-alkaloid tomatoes and understanding their sensory profile (i.e. does increasing alkaloid content of modern processing tomato impart negative sensory characteristics in the fruit?) My project incorporates targeted analytical chemistry, metabolomics, sensory science, bioinformatics, and plant breeding techniques to generate, evaluate, and select progeny to further his work. I am also interested in understanding the anatomical distribution of alkaloids within the tomato fruit through an applied lens (e.g., are alkaloids primarily found in the fruit parts that get removed during industrial processing?)
Why OSU?
I chose OSU HCS because I wanted to be trained in analytical chemistry and metabolomics by my advisor, Jess Cooperstone, in a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive lab environment.
