Why HCS?

We offer a small-department atmosphere and individual attention to students.  Most majors work in department labs or research farms at some point during their degree program and gain valuable experience.  Many become involved in research and present their work at university forums and professional meetings.

You can choose from a broad selection courses, with over 80 undergraduate level courses in Sustainable Plant Systems and the Professional Golf Management majors and hundreds of courses across College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and the University. In HCS, class sizes are typically small, often 20-40 students.  For introductory and general education courses, our class sizes range from 60-120 but typically include smaller labs or discussion groups.

Specializations within the Sustainable Plant Systems Major

The Sustainable Plant Systems major offers five specializations, Agroecology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Biosciences, and Turfgrass Science. Each specialization focuses its area of study on a particular field of plant science. From ornamental plants, to corn and soybeans, to sports turf management, students can find their fit with the Sustainable Plant Systems major.
